Spruce Island is a drop-shoulder constructed sweater that mixes both stranded and intarsia colorwork techniques to illustrate a reflected tree line. The front and back panels are knit flat, from side to side. The garter hem and yoke with shoulder shaping and neckline are built into the panels. The front panel neckline is slightly lower than the back panel neckline. Once panels are completed, shoulder stitches are picked up and seamed using the 3-needle bind off method. Sides are seamed to the armhole. Sleeve stitches are picked up and sleeves worked in the round to the cuff.

You will need:

  • Berroco Ultra Alpaca (we can order what you need so you get the right amount and colors. Last date to order: October 29th!)
  • US #8 and #7 32" circular knitting needles
  • Stitch markers
  • Knitting knowledge: how to knit and purl, increase and decrease, basic pattern reading skills (This is an intermediate level sweater - talk to Dorothea if you are concerned about your level.)
  • Sense of humor

You will learn:

  • How to knit colorwork in two ways: stranded (Fair Isle) and Intarsia
  • How to read a chart
  • How to pick up stitches
